Hydrocyclone is a static device to separate particles in a liquid suspension based on the ratio of their centripetal force to fluid resistance. It is a closed vessel designed to convert incoming liquid velocity into rotary motion. It does this by directing inflow tangentially near the top of a vertical cylinder, This spins the entire contents of the cylinder, creating centrifugal force in the liquid. The Hydrocyclones are divided in two categories ( desanders and desilters )
The Cut point of 10 inch or 12 inch desanders is 40-45 um and that of 4 inch or 5 inch desilters 20-5 um. There are many factors influence the performance of hydrocyclone. Main factors as follow.
1, Mud density
2, Solids Content of the underflow of the preceding equipment or Solids content of the mud that gets into the inlet of this unit
3, Mud Viscosity
4, Feed Pressure
5, Feed Flow rate
6, Apex size
In order to make the hydrocyclones to work efficiently. The solids Content of the drilling mud flows into the inlet of this unit must fit the unit itself. This requires the shale shaker separate the large size solids out as much as possible. if this conditions is satisfied. to make the hydrocyclones to work efficiently. adjustment of feed rate, feed pressure or replacement of an apex of another size must be taken.
