Until now, GN Solids Control has established two overseas branch companies. One is GN Solids America LLC which is located in Houston, the other one is GN Solids Russia which is in Moscow.
For GN Solids America, GN not only keep solids control equipments in storage, but also send experience engineers to cover the America market for technical supporting and after sales service.
For the offshore drilling rig, GN send out two engineers with many years experience. Due to the compact layout the offshore drilling rig, the height difference between GN decanter centrifuge and feeding pump is about 15m. The drilling mud is pretty heavier with large density, so the feeding pump must have enough pressure to provide continuously and smoothly to the centrifuge.
GN centrifuge has some protections to keep the bowl and screw propeller running safely. Once the feeding pressure is overlarge, the frequency changer will detect the overload of the main motor current, and then it will give a stop signal to the main motor. But it will not possible to feed the mud into decanter centrifuge if the feeding pressure is not large enough. So GN engineers add another pipe in the bypass pipe of the centrifuge, part of the drilling mud will be send back to the bypass pipe and then send back to the shale shaker.

How to operate GN VFD control panel for decanter centrifuge?

As we all know, GN has been providing excellent decanter centrifuges for many years, now many global clients are using GN decanter centrifuges for their oil and gas solids control work. There are some other areas are using GN centrifuges, such as waste water treatment, mining/ core drilling fluids recovery.
GN has two types of decanter centrifuges: the first one is fix speed and the second one is variable speed. The fix speed type is rotating as 3200 rpm or 2800 rpm, you can change the speed by using different pulleys and belts. For clients are fully understand the solids they are going to separate, we recommend to use fix speed. Sometimes, changing another pulley and belt might be a little bit difficult for workers without good hands-on skills.
It is quite obvious that the variable speed decanter centrifuge is much more convenient than the fix speed. Whenever you need to change the speed, you can just set it on the VFD control panel. For clients have solids in different densities or sizes, VFD control decanter centrifuge are also highly recommended.

How to operate the VFD control panel? Today we’ll give you a brief idea on it.
Let’s take GNLW363 decanter centrifuge as an example. As GN control panel is designed for explosion proof, so it needs to be equipped with an air compressor and provide clean air with 0.2 MPa to 0.3 MPa. After around 20 minutes air feeding, the control cabinet switch is on with the pressure of 80 MPa to 800 MPa. When the auxiliary control cabinet is in the status of testing, the main control panel can be powered on even the door of the cabinet is open.
The rotating speed of the bowl (from 0 to 3200r/min) and the differential speed (from 0 to 45r/min) can be adjusted on the control panel. When you change the above two parameters, the corresponding speed of auxiliary motor and the actual rotating speed of the main motor can be changed automatically. According to our former experiences, the rotating speed of decanter centrifuge is recommend to set at the speed of 2800 rpm, while the differential speed is recommend to set at the speed of 35rpm, however, these two parameters are not always the same due to various drilling fluids that are treated.

As more and more people pay attentions to environmental protection, drilling waste management is becoming more and more popular. To treat the oil based mud, water base mud or synthetic base mud we can get the enclosed oil and protect the environment, because most of the drilling mud cannot be discharged to the nature directly.
GN Solids Control has provided many sets of drilling waste management systems to meet this particular demand. Until now, we have many successful experiences in this area. Some large clients such as Shell, Bake Hughes have come to GN for their drilling waste management systems.
Just several weeks before, GN has provided one set of drilling waste management system to Russia. GN Solids Control has the belief that we will offer much more drilling waste management systems to global clients.

For drilling waste management systems, it mainly consists of GN vertical cuttings dryer and GN decanter centrifuge. There are also some auxiliary parts such as screw pump or screw conveyor.
Usually, the drilling mud come from shale shaker or mud cleaner will be transferred to cuttings dryer directly by one or two screw conveyor. The drilling mud can be separated by the rotating basket in our cuttings dryer. Now we have three dimensions of screen opening for our basket, which are 250 microns, 350 microns and 500 microns. There’s also one flushing pump to clean the cuttings dryer form outside, while from the inside there’s one air knife system to blow out the pasted mud on the basket.
The solids separated by cuttings dryer is pretty dry, and the oil is usually contains 5% which meet the environmental protection demands and can be discharged directly. Drilling fluids come from cuttings dryer, it can be further separated by GN decanter centrifuge, finally the drilling fluids can be reused for oil drilling.

An Introduction of GN TBM System

Based on the strong experiences on solids control and waste management, GN has his reputation precede his name. One client from Singapore are working on TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) area, and they came to GN ask for turnkey solutions on drilling waste management. After careful study, GN has designed and manufactured one whole set of TBM system for this client.
This TBM System is combined with mechanical separation and chemical separation. Usually, for solids control or waste management most clients don’t have very high demands so the separated clean water contains some finer particals. For those clients have strict demands, to use flocculants is quite necessary.
GN recommend using one set of GNZS 705E-HB, this shale shaker is equipped with two decks. The upper shaker is used for separating coarse solids, and it’s using opening screen which is two mm. For the bellowing deck, it’s equipped with shaker screen which is API 20.
There is one set of GN mud desander (GNZJ 703E-2S) right in the back of shale shaker. By using this desander, it can separate the solids whose diameter is beyond 45 microns.

GN flocculation system is controlled by PLC which can perform mixing polymers with drilling mud automatically. The flocculation system has two compartments; these two compartments can work separately. One compartment can be used to mixing polymers and the other can be used to feeding the decanter centrifuge, and these two compartments can be changed their functions after the first time’s mixing and feeding automatically. By using this flocculation system, the decanter centrifuge can be fed continuously, which is very helpful to improve working efficiency. Depend on the working conditions, sometimes this flocculation system can be added with water.

For the mud or sludge that is fed to decanter centrifuge, it is mixed with the polymers first. Then these combined flow runs into decanter centrifuge, it separate solids and water by large force. By using this set of GN TBM system, clients can get clean water, and the slurry can be moved by a car.
